Rooted: Prayer Guide - Day 1

Refuge: A Season of Prayer

Rooted

Sinking Deep Roots in the Life of God

A tree is only as strong as its roots are deep. The steady, fruitful life we long for doesn’t come from trying harder on the surface — it grows underground, in the hidden work of staying close to God. These 21 days are an invitation to sink down deep, and to stay.

— Begin on any day. Grow every day. —

Each day carries one verse and concept, prayers for morning, afternoon, and evening, and a For Families section — a simple way to grow the theme at home with your children.

How to Use This Guide

The Verse & Concept

Read the verse slowly, then the concept beneath it. Read it again, slowly. Let it name the day’s theme before you pray, and carry one line of it with you.

Morning Prayer

Pray it as the day begins — to root yourself in God before the day’s demands compete for your attention.

Afternoon Prayer

A midday return to what matters. Wherever the day has taken you, this is a moment to reconnect your roots to God.

Evening Prayer

Pray it as the day closes — to rest, to let the day’s growth settle, and to sink your roots a little deeper overnight.

Reflect

One honest question. Sit with it, journal it, or talk it through.

For Families

A simple concept and prayer to grow the theme at home with your children — through conversation, a small activity, and praying together.

Day 1: The Invitation

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”

- Colossians 2:6–7

Concept

You were not made to merely visit God but to be rooted in Him — planted, established, drawing your whole life from His. These 21 days are an invitation to sink down deep and stay.

Morning Prayer

Lord, as this day begins, I want to be rooted in You, no longer just passing through. Sink my life down into who You are, and let everything I do today grow up out of that. Amen.

Afternoon Prayer

Father, in the middle of this day, remind me where my life is planted. Not in my performance, not in others’ approval — in You. Steady me in that ground. Amen.

Evening Prayer

Lord, before I rest, I return to the soil I was made for. Root me a little deeper tonight. Build me up in You while I sleep. Amen.

Reflect: What is your life most rooted in right now — and is it something that can actually hold you?

For Families

Concept

Show your kids a potted plant, or a tree outside. Explain that a plant can only live if its roots are in good soil — pull one from its pot and the roots have nothing to hold. Ask: “What do you think it means for a person to be ‘rooted’ in God?” Explain that these next 21 days are about growing deep, strong roots in Him.

Family Prayer

God, we want to be a rooted family — planted deep in You. Over these next three weeks, grow strong roots in each of us. Amen.
