Rooted: Prayer Guide - Day 18

Refuge: A Season of Prayer

Rooted

Sinking Deep Roots in the Life of God

A tree is only as strong as its roots are deep. The steady, fruitful life we long for doesn’t come from trying harder on the surface — it grows underground, in the hidden work of staying close to God. These 21 days are an invitation to sink down deep, and to stay.

— Begin on any day. Grow every day. —

Each day carries one verse and concept, prayers for morning, afternoon, and evening, and a For Families section — a simple way to grow the theme at home with your children.

How to Use This Guide

The Verse & Concept

Read the verse slowly, then the concept beneath it. Read it again, slowly. Let it name the day’s theme before you pray, and carry one line of it with you.

Morning Prayer

Pray it as the day begins — to root yourself in God before the day’s demands compete for your attention.

Afternoon Prayer

A midday return to what matters. Wherever the day has taken you, this is a moment to reconnect your roots to God.

Evening Prayer

Pray it as the day closes — to rest, to let the day’s growth settle, and to sink your roots a little deeper overnight.

Reflect

One honest question. Sit with it, journal it, or talk it through.

For Families

A simple concept and prayer to grow the theme at home with your children — through conversation, a small activity, and praying together.

Day 18: Fruit in its Season

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”

- Galatians 5:22–23

Concept

Fruit is grown, not forced. You can’t strain your way into love or manufacture peace — these grow naturally from a life rooted in the Spirit. Your job is to stay rooted; the fruit is His to produce, in the right season.

Morning Prayer

Father, I can’t force good fruit today by trying harder. Help me stay rooted in Your Spirit and trust You to grow love, peace, and patience out of me. Amen.

Afternoon Prayer

Lord, where I’m short on kindness or self-control this afternoon, I don’t strain — I return to the root. Grow Your fruit in me from the inside out. Amen.

Evening Prayer

God, thank You for any fruit that grew through me today — even a little. Keep me rooted in Your Spirit, and bring it in its season. Amen.

Reflect: Which fruit of the Spirit do you most want God to grow in you — and are you rooted where it can grow?

For Families

Concept

Read the fruit of the Spirit list together — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Ask each person: “Which one is easy for you? Which one is hard?” Explain that these grow in us as we stay close to God — we don’t force them, they grow. Pick one to “grow” together this week.

Family Prayer

God, grow Your good fruit in our family — patience when we’re annoyed, kindness when it’s hard, peace when things are crazy. We stay rooted in You. Amen.
