How to Use This Guide
The Verse & Concept
Read the verse slowly, then the concept beneath it. Read it again, slowly. Let it name the day’s theme before you pray, and carry one line of it with you.
Morning Prayer
Pray it as the day begins — to root yourself in God before the day’s demands compete for your attention.
Afternoon Prayer
A midday return to what matters. Wherever the day has taken you, this is a moment to reconnect your roots to God.
Evening Prayer
Pray it as the day closes — to rest, to let the day’s growth settle, and to sink your roots a little deeper overnight.
Reflect
One honest question. Sit with it, journal it, or talk it through.
For Families
A simple concept and prayer to grow the theme at home with your children — through conversation, a small activity, and praying together.
Day 7: Search the Soil
“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!”
- Psalm 139:23
Concept
A gardener turns the soil to see what’s really there — the rocks, the weeds, the good earth. David invites God to search beneath the surface of his heart. What God uncovers, He also tends.
Morning Prayer
Search me, God, this morning. Turn over the soil of my heart and show me what’s underneath — the rocks and weeds I’d rather not see. I trust Your gardener’s hands. Amen.
Afternoon Prayer
Father, is there something I’ve been keeping buried? This afternoon, expose it, that I might stop hiding it. Bring it into the light, gently. What You uncover, I trust You to heal. Amen.
Evening Prayer
Lord, test me and know my anxious thoughts tonight. Pull the weeds that would choke what You’re growing. I rest in being fully known. Amen.
Reflect: What’s buried in the soil of your heart that you’ve been avoiding letting God see?
For Families
Concept
Explain that David prayed a brave prayer — he asked God to look inside his heart, even the messy parts, like a gardener pulling weeds so good plants can grow. Ask gently: “Is there anything hard you’ve been keeping inside?” Share something of your own first. Remind them: God already knows, and He loves us anyway.
Family Prayer
God, search our hearts. Pull out the weeds — the things that hurt us or others. We don’t want to hide from You. Thank You for loving us where we are. Amen.
