Rooted: Prayer Guide - Day 8

Refuge: A Season of Prayer

Rooted

Sinking Deep Roots in the Life of God

A tree is only as strong as its roots are deep. The steady, fruitful life we long for doesn’t come from trying harder on the surface — it grows underground, in the hidden work of staying close to God. These 21 days are an invitation to sink down deep, and to stay.

— Begin on any day. Grow every day. —

Each day carries one verse and concept, prayers for morning, afternoon, and evening, and a For Families section — a simple way to grow the theme at home with your children.

How to Use This Guide

The Verse & Concept

Read the verse slowly, then the concept beneath it. Read it again, slowly. Let it name the day’s theme before you pray, and carry one line of it with you.

Morning Prayer

Pray it as the day begins — to root yourself in God before the day’s demands compete for your attention.

Afternoon Prayer

A midday return to what matters. Wherever the day has taken you, this is a moment to reconnect your roots to God.

Evening Prayer

Pray it as the day closes — to rest, to let the day’s growth settle, and to sink your roots a little deeper overnight.

Reflect

One honest question. Sit with it, journal it, or talk it through.

For Families

A simple concept and prayer to grow the theme at home with your children — through conversation, a small activity, and praying together.

Day 8: Still and Deep

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

- Psalm 46:10

Concept

Roots grow deepest in quiet, unhurried ground. In a world of constant noise, stillness is how roots find their depth. We are formed not in the rush but in the quiet where we remember who God is.

Morning Prayer

Father, before the noise starts, I am still. Let my roots grow down into You in this quiet. I don’t want a shallow, hurried faith — I want a deep one. Amen.

Afternoon Prayer

Lord, in the middle of a loud day, I stop and go quiet for a moment. Still the noise inside me. Take me deeper than the surface of this day. Amen.

Evening Prayer

God, as everything grows quiet tonight, settle my roots. In the stillness, I remember: You are God, and I am held as your child. Amen.

Reflect: When did you last let yourself be still long enough for your roots to go deep?

For Families

Concept

Do a 60-second stillness challenge together — no phones, no talking, no noise. Afterward ask: “Was that easy or hard? What did you notice?” Explain that just like a tree needs calm ground to grow deep roots, we need quiet to grow close to God. Try it again, and this time whisper to God, “I’m listening.”

Family Prayer

God, our home gets so busy and loud. Teach our family to be still. In the quiet, help our roots grow deep in You. We’re listening. Amen.
