Rooted: Prayer Guide - Day 9

Refuge: A Season of Prayer

Rooted

Sinking Deep Roots in the Life of God

A tree is only as strong as its roots are deep. The steady, fruitful life we long for doesn’t come from trying harder on the surface — it grows underground, in the hidden work of staying close to God. These 21 days are an invitation to sink down deep, and to stay.

— Begin on any day. Grow every day. —

Each day carries one verse and concept, prayers for morning, afternoon, and evening, and a For Families section — a simple way to grow the theme at home with your children.

How to Use This Guide

The Verse & Concept

Read the verse slowly, then the concept beneath it. Read it again, slowly. Let it name the day’s theme before you pray, and carry one line of it with you.

Morning Prayer

Pray it as the day begins — to root yourself in God before the day’s demands compete for your attention.

Afternoon Prayer

A midday return to what matters. Wherever the day has taken you, this is a moment to reconnect your roots to God.

Evening Prayer

Pray it as the day closes — to rest, to let the day’s growth settle, and to sink your roots a little deeper overnight.

Reflect

One honest question. Sit with it, journal it, or talk it through.

For Families

A simple concept and prayer to grow the theme at home with your children — through conversation, a small activity, and praying together.

Day 9: Thirst

“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.”

- Psalm 42:1

Concept

Thirst is a sign of life, and every ache can become an invitation to pause and reflect. Just as a deer longs for water, our souls long for God. Rather than ignoring or numbing that longing, we can allow it to draw us toward the One who alone can truly satisfy.

Morning Prayer

God, this morning make me aware of my thirst for You. I don’t want to ignore it or numb it with lesser things. Lead me to the stream. Fill me with what only You can. Amen.

Afternoon Prayer

Father, when I reach for things that don’t satisfy this afternoon, remind me what I’m really thirsty for. My soul pants for You. Bring me to the water. Amen.

Evening Prayer

Lord, thank You that I still thirst for You — it means I’m alive and reaching. Let my roots drink deep tonight, and let me wake thirsty for more of You. Amen.

Reflect: What have you been using to quench your soul that only God can satisfy?

For Families

Concept

Let everyone take a sip of water after running around, or after a salty snack. Ask: “What does it feel like to be really thirsty, then finally drink?” Explain that our hearts get thirsty for God, and only He fills that up — not toys, screens, or treats. Ask: “What do you think it feels like to be thirsty for God?”

Family Prayer

Lord, make our family thirsty for You — more than for things that don’t last. Be the water that fills us up. We come to the stream. Amen.
