Rooted: Prayer Guide - Day 2
Refuge: A Season of Prayer
Rooted
Sinking Deep Roots in the Life of God
A tree is only as strong as its roots are deep. The steady, fruitful life we long for doesn’t come from trying harder on the surface — it grows underground, in the hidden work of staying close to God. These 21 days are an invitation to sink down deep, and to stay.
— Begin on any day. Grow every day. —
Each day carries one verse and concept, prayers for morning, afternoon, and evening, and a For Families section — a simple way to grow the theme at home with your children.
How to Use This Guide
The Verse & Concept
Read the verse slowly, then the concept beneath it. Read it again, slowly. Let it name the day’s theme before you pray, and carry one line of it with you.
Morning Prayer
Pray it as the day begins — to root yourself in God before the day’s demands compete for your attention.
Afternoon Prayer
A midday return to what matters. Wherever the day has taken you, this is a moment to reconnect your roots to God.
Evening Prayer
Pray it as the day closes — to rest, to let the day’s growth settle, and to sink your roots a little deeper overnight.
Reflect
One honest question. Sit with it, journal it, or talk it through.
For Families
A simple concept and prayer to grow the theme at home with your children — through conversation, a small activity, and praying together.
Day 2: Planted by Water
“He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes.”
- Jeremiah 17:7–8
Concept
The one who trusts God is like a tree by a stream — not because life is easy, but because the roots reach where the water is. Nearness to God is what makes you unshakable.
Morning Prayer
Father, plant me by Your stream today. Let my roots reach past the surface of things and down into You, so that whatever heat this day brings, I am fed from somewhere deeper. Amen.
Afternoon Prayer
Lord, if today has grown hot and dry, remind me that my roots run to living water. I don’t have to fear the heat. Draw me down to the stream. Amen.
Evening Prayer
God, thank You that my leaves can stay green even in a hard season, because You are the water at my roots. Refresh me tonight. Amen.
Reflect: Where are your roots reaching for water right now — toward God, or toward something that runs dry?
For Families
Concept
Do a simple experiment: put a celery stalk or a plant cutting in a cup with a little water, and leave another with none. Talk about what will happen over a few days. Explain that we’re like plants — we need to stay near our “water,” which is God. Ask: “What are some ways our family can stay close to God, like roots near a stream?”
Family Prayer
God, You are the stream that keeps us alive. Help our family send our roots toward You, especially when things get hard. Keep us green. Amen.
