How to Use This Guide
The Verse & Concept
Read the verse slowly, then the concept beneath it. Read it again, slowly. Let it name the day’s theme before you pray, and carry one line of it with you.
Morning Prayer
Pray it as the day begins — to root yourself in God before the day’s demands compete for your attention.
Afternoon Prayer
A midday return to what matters. Wherever the day has taken you, this is a moment to reconnect your roots to God.
Evening Prayer
Pray it as the day closes — to rest, to let the day’s growth settle, and to sink your roots a little deeper overnight.
Reflect
One honest question. Sit with it, journal it, or talk it through.
For Families
A simple concept and prayer to grow the theme at home with your children — through conversation, a small activity, and praying together.
Day 4: The Soil of Your Life
“Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord.”
- Hosea 10:12
Concept
Roots can only go as deep as the soil allows. Many of us have hard, unplowed ground — places we’ve let harden. Today is about breaking up that soil so something new can grow.
Morning Prayer
Lord, this morning, break up the hard ground in me. Soften the places that have gone dry and packed down, so Your life can take root today. It is time to seek You. Amen.
Afternoon Prayer
Father, show me the hard soil in my day — the resentment, the hurry, the places I am unwilling to let You in. Make it soft again. Amen.
Evening Prayer
God, as I rest, keep tilling the ground of my heart. Prepare the soil overnight for what You want to grow in me. Amen.
Reflect: Where has the ground of your heart gone hard? What would it take to break it up?
For Families
Concept
Get a little soil, or just picture it. Talk about the difference between hard, dry ground and soft, rich soil — which one can a seed grow in? Ask: “What are some things that make our hearts get ‘hard’ — staying angry, not forgiving, being too busy for God?” Talk about one way each of you can keep your heart soft this week.
Family Prayer
God, keep the soil of our hearts soft. Help our family forgive quickly, stay humble, and always make room for You to grow something good. Amen.
