How to Use This Guide
The Verse & Concept
Read the verse slowly, then the concept beneath it. Read it again, slowly. Let it name the day’s theme before you pray, and carry one line of it with you.
Morning Prayer
Pray it as the day begins — to root yourself in God before the day’s demands compete for your attention.
Afternoon Prayer
A midday return to what matters. Wherever the day has taken you, this is a moment to reconnect your roots to God.
Evening Prayer
Pray it as the day closes — to rest, to let the day’s growth settle, and to sink your roots a little deeper overnight.
Reflect
One honest question. Sit with it, journal it, or talk it through.
For Families
A simple concept and prayer to grow the theme at home with your children — through conversation, a small activity, and praying together.
Day 5: Roots Before Fruit
“The surviving remnant... shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward.”

Concept
Roots come before fruit — always. The most important growth happens underground, unseen, before anything shows on the surface. Don’t despise the hidden season; it’s where strength is built
Morning Prayer
Father, today let me tend what’s underground — the parts of my faith no one sees. Grow my roots before You grow my fruit. I trust the hidden work. Amen
Afternoon Prayer
Lord, if I’m impatient for results this afternoon, remind me that roots come first. Help me stay faithful in the unseen things. Amen.
Evening Prayer
God, thank You for the growth happening in me that I can’t yet see. As I rest, keep sending my roots down deep. The fruit will come. Amen.
Reflect: What “underground” work might God be doing?
For Families
Concept
Talk about how a seed spends a long time underground before you ever see a sprout — nothing looks like it’s happening, but it is. Ask your kids: “Is it hard to wait for things?” Explain that God grows us the same way — the important stuff often happens where we can’t see it. Plant a real seed together if you can, and check it over the coming days.
Family Prayer
God, help our family be patient while You grow us. Even when we can’t see it, we trust You’re doing something good under the surface. Amen.
