Rooted: Prayer Guide - Day 14

Refuge: A Season of Prayer

Rooted

Sinking Deep Roots in the Life of God

A tree is only as strong as its roots are deep. The steady, fruitful life we long for doesn’t come from trying harder on the surface — it grows underground, in the hidden work of staying close to God. These 21 days are an invitation to sink down deep, and to stay.

— Begin on any day. Grow every day. —

Each day carries one verse and concept, prayers for morning, afternoon, and evening, and a For Families section — a simple way to grow the theme at home with your children.

How to Use This Guide

The Verse & Concept

Read the verse slowly, then the concept beneath it. Read it again, slowly. Let it name the day’s theme before you pray, and carry one line of it with you.

Morning Prayer

Pray it as the day begins — to root yourself in God before the day’s demands compete for your attention.

Afternoon Prayer

A midday return to what matters. Wherever the day has taken you, this is a moment to reconnect your roots to God.

Evening Prayer

Pray it as the day closes — to rest, to let the day’s growth settle, and to sink your roots a little deeper overnight.

Reflect

One honest question. Sit with it, journal it, or talk it through.

For Families

A simple concept and prayer to grow the theme at home with your children — through conversation, a small activity, and praying together.

Day 14: When the Heat Comes

“It does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

- Jeremiah 17:8

Concept

A rooted tree isn’t spared the heat; it simply isn’t ruled by it, because its roots reach the water. The question is never whether heat will come, but how deep your roots have grown.

Morning Prayer

Father, whatever heat this day holds, I don’t have to fear it. My roots reach Your stream. Keep my leaves green through it. Amen.

Afternoon Prayer

Lord, if the heat is on this afternoon, steady me. I’m not ruled by the circumstances on the surface — I’m fed by the water underneath. Amen.

Evening Prayer

God, as we move through this journey, I look at how my roots have grown. Keep sending them deeper, so that in the next hard season I have no worries. Amen.

Reflect: What “heat” are you facing right now — and are your roots deep enough to reach the water beneath it?

For Families

Concept

Check in as a family, ask each person: “What is one thing God has been growing in you so far?” Even the little ones can answer; celebrate everything. Then talk about “heat” — hard days, big feelings, tough situations — and remind them that deep roots help us stay steady. Ask: “What do we want God to grow in our family in the next seven days?”

Family Prayer

Father, we are moving through this journey, and we don’t want to wilt when things get hard. Grow our roots deeper in the next seven days. Keep our family green. Amen.
