Rooted: Prayer Guide - Day 17

Refuge: A Season of Prayer

Rooted

Sinking Deep Roots in the Life of God

A tree is only as strong as its roots are deep. The steady, fruitful life we long for doesn’t come from trying harder on the surface — it grows underground, in the hidden work of staying close to God. These 21 days are an invitation to sink down deep, and to stay.

— Begin on any day. Grow every day. —

Each day carries one verse and concept, prayers for morning, afternoon, and evening, and a For Families section — a simple way to grow the theme at home with your children.

How to Use This Guide

The Verse & Concept

Read the verse slowly, then the concept beneath it. Read it again, slowly. Let it name the day’s theme before you pray, and carry one line of it with you.

Morning Prayer

Pray it as the day begins — to root yourself in God before the day’s demands compete for your attention.

Afternoon Prayer

A midday return to what matters. Wherever the day has taken you, this is a moment to reconnect your roots to God.

Evening Prayer

Pray it as the day closes — to rest, to let the day’s growth settle, and to sink your roots a little deeper overnight.

Reflect

One honest question. Sit with it, journal it, or talk it through.

For Families

A simple concept and prayer to grow the theme at home with your children — through conversation, a small activity, and praying together.

Day 17: Tending the Garden

“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”

- Proverbs 4:23

Concept

A garden left untended fills with weeds. Guarding your heart is active, watchful work — noticing what you let take root, because whatever grows there eventually shows up in your life. Tend the soil, and everything else flows from it.

Morning Prayer

Lord, help me tend the garden of my heart today. Give me wisdom about what to let take root and what to pull up early. Everything I do flows from here. Amen.

Afternoon Prayer

Father, watch with me this afternoon over what I’m planting in my heart — what I watch, hear, and dwell on. Keep the weeds out. Keep the soil good. Amen.

Evening Prayer

God, as I review this day, show me any weeds that took root — pull them before they spread. Guard what You’re growing in me. Amen.

Reflect: What’s currently taking root in your heart that you need to tend — or pull up?

For Families

Concept

Hold up a cup and explain: whatever we fill it with is what spills out when it’s bumped. Our hearts work the same way. Ask your kids: “What are good things we can plant in our hearts? What are weeds we should keep out?” Talk honestly, as a family, about what you let in — what you watch, listen to, and spend time on.

Family Prayer

Lord, help us tend the gardens of our hearts and our home. Give us wisdom to choose well what we let in, so good fruit grows out of us. Amen.
